Flora and fauna survey of the Stillwell Hills, 1996/97 - GIS data

The broadscale distribution of flora (lichens, mosses, non-marine algae)and fauna (penguins, flying birds, seals)in the Stillwell Hills was mapped using GPS technology. Samples of flora were collected for taxonomic identification.


Data were recorded and catalogued in shapefiles.

Statement
Most foot-accessible areas of Stillwell Hills were visited and many isolated outcrops/islands were visited via helicopter. Raw GPS data includes survey routes. In-field collection and storage of GPS positions with tagged attributes, post-processed against GPS base to provide differential position fixes, export as Arcview shapefiles and attribute tables. Post-processed GPS positions to sub-metre accuracy. Attributes assigned in the field based on current conditions and appearances. Taxonomy to be added after identification. Attributes accurate at the time of survey/sampling.
