Statement
Provides a guide to major taxonomic level, after which more detailed guides can be used for determining species. Only adult, macroscopic, holoplanktonic, metazoan animals are dealt with in this guide. Only groups found in the Southern Ocean are considered in detail. Within these conditions, the dataset is complete. This dataset provides a guide for identifying organisms and classifying them into the major taxonomic categories. Characteristics of a number of zooplankton groups are detailed. Illustrations of typical animals are also given. The information presented in temporal and spatial coverage is approximate only.
