Statement
This dataset provides a complete guide to Euphausia, especially Antarctic species. This dataset is compiled information about Euphausia found in the Southern Ocean. A general guide to Euphausia is given, with an emphasis on Antarctic species. Keys are provided, and distribution mapped. Short biological descriptions of Euphausia superba, Euphausia crystallorophias, Euphausia frigida, Euphausia triacantha, Euphausia vallentini, Thysanoessa macrura, Thysanoessa vicina and Bentheuphausia amblyops are given. Larval development of Euphausia superba, Euphausia crystallorophias, Euphausia frigida, Euphausia triacantha and Thysanoessa macrura is outlined and compared, as well as the sexual maturation of Euphausia superba. A description of the methods used for measuring Euphausia is also included. The information presented in temporal and spatial coverage is approximate only.
