NERP Marine Biodiversity Hub, Theme 1 - Tasman Fracture Commonwealth Marine Reserve Pilot Study - Baited remote underwater stereo video (BRUV) Component

The Tasman Fracture CMR AUV survey was a pilot study undertaken in 2014/15 as part of the National Marine Biodiversity Hub's National monitoring, evaluation and reporting theme. The aim of this theme is to develop a bluepint for the sustained monitoring of the South-east Commonwealth Marine Reserve Network. The particular aim of the survey was to contribute to an inventory of the distribution and abundance of demersal fishes in the reserve and adjacent reference sites using BRUVs.

Data contained here represents footage collected using these drops and the associated scored data (abundance and lengths).

Statement
Baited Remote Underwater Stereo Video (BRUV) footage was collected from the Tasman Fracture Commonwealth Marine Reserve (CMR) and surround shelf environment (i.e. South and South-east Capes). The BRUV's deployment localities were determined using spatially balanced Generalized Random Tessellation Stratified (GRTS) design. BRUVS were deployed for a soak time of 1 hour, baited with ~1kg of pilchards. Standard SeaGIS frames and housings were used and deployments were illuminated using Raytech Blue LED lights. Cannon HFM300 High Definition Cameras were used to capture video. Native Cannon file format (.MTS) was converted to .avi. This record contains the raw .avi footage and data scored from footage. Footage was scored based on MaxN using EventMeasure (SeaGIS) using CSIRO CAAB. Length measurements were taken for Cephaloscyllium laticeps, Helicolenus perciodes, Nemadactylus macropterus, Pseudophycis spp. and Latris lineata.
